The quality of the Tigernut from Valencia

The culture of the chufa of Valencia possesses a set of agricultural, technical, historical, economic and social values that once it is assimilated by people it becomes a part of their culture and habits of life, simultaneously it represents the recognition of a product for its quality and prestige.

In order to credit the high quality of this product, a specific label was created to certify the origin of the product and testify to its quality. This label, known in Spanish as "Denominación de Origen (D.O)" finds its English counterpart in the Royal Warrant labels that frequently credit products as purveyors to the English and other European Royal Families, attesting to their quality.

This label was granted by the Valencia Regional Government in 1995 and it is distributed through the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Chufa of Valencia Since its creation this organisation looks over the quality of the tuber in every phase: plantation, wash, dried and selection. It also guarantees to the consumer that in the establishments and in the packings of horchata that show the logotype of the Regulatory Council, the horchata has been prepared by authentic Chufa of Valencia and it fulfills the quality parameters demanded.

The label thus guarantees that any product served or bought in commercial establishments with this distinction is proof of the quality of the product as a genuine product.

In essence, the Guarantee of Origin label known as Chufa of Valencia is a certificate of quality, and the Regulating Council of the Guarantee of Origin Chufa of Valencia is the organisation responsible for its final certificate of quality
